I'm on Social Security Disability because of "collective severity". That means there are a group of problems that I have that, altogether, now make it impossible for me to hold down a full time job. I go to several specialists, and one of them, who I belive to be a very bright Ear/Nose/Throat Specialist/Surgeon/Allergy Specialist/up-to-date onSleep Apnea ....asked why I was taking Vioxx since my chart indicates I'm allergic to Sulpha drugs. I've been told I'm allergic to sulpha since I was very young. I don't specifically remember any event when I was young. I DO remember during one of my bouts of pneumonia that my lungs felt very heavy and that I actually felt worse, but this was as an adult.
I'm in more arthritic/joint pain without Vioxx, but am afraid to take it because of his comment. Does anybody know what families of drugs sulpha is in? I looked at countless sites, but didn't recognize anything except one that said "Vioxx & Sulpha"....but didn't really tell me anything!
Please advise if you've "been there and done that".
Thanks so much.

Lynne
